Goblins were made by an evil god as an affront to the created races. They are a sick amalgamation of all the races - the scales of a serpent, height of a ratori, the build of a dwarf, elf ears, orc tusks, atpian nose, and human cunning.
Goblins are incredibly vicious creatures but fear their own shadow. Sunlight is painful to them, and shadows often indicate that it is time to return to their caves or whatever hole they crawled out of.
During the purges, something in the goblins would change. They would pour out of their caves en masse and without fear of sunlight, overrunning small villages and hamlets.
Their caves are often poorly lit, with most light coming from crude forges used to smelt the metal they scrounge and tan the hides they scrape off of animals. Most tribes are run by the largest and cruelest goblin, at least until a larger and crueler goblin is found. They are known for having a rudimentary religion and understanding of medicine, as shamans have been found amongst goblin corpses following raids.
