12 Leafall, 92:Mysts

Dearest Tidmy, I hope this letter finds you well, my friend. The fall winds are blowing through our encampment near the dwarven mountains, bringing with them the scent of pine and stone - but alas, not the scent of opportunity we've been seeking.

Our latest attempt to establish trade relations with the dwarves of Kazenrock has met with the same stone-faced refusal as all our previous efforts. By Nowmaak's grace, you'd think they'd see the prosperity that could flow if they'd only open their gates! But no, they guard their halls as jealously as a dragon guards its hoard.

I must admit, their craftsmanship is unparalleled. The glimpses I've caught of their metalwork and gem-cutting make our finest artisans look like fumbling apprentices. Imagine the wealth we could amass with such wares! The profits would be enough to make even Pamaak smile.

But it's not just about coin, my friend. The knowledge they hoard! I've heard whispers of their enchanted items - weapons that never dull, armor light as silk yet strong as mountain stone. Such treasures could revolutionize our caravans' defenses against the perils of the road.

I fear the Arcane Eclipse has only made them more wary. While the rest of us grapple with these new magical realities, they've retreated further into their mountain fastnesses. Even invoking Sansamaak's blessing on our journeys hasn't softened their resolve. There are rumors, of course. Some say they're hiding something far more valuable than gold or gems. Others whisper of ancient pacts with their gods, Baiqul and Pekeana, forbidding outsiders. Whatever the truth, their gates remain as unyielding as their famed ironwood doors. I've considered seeking an audience with their clan elders. Perhaps a more formal approach might yield better results. But navigating their politics is like trying to map a maze in the dark. One wrong step, and we could find ourselves banned from all their holds! Sometimes, in my more fanciful moments, I dream of discovering some long-lost dwarven artifact. Imagine presenting them with a piece of their own history - surely that would earn us an invitation into their halls! But such dreams are as rare and elusive as the mysteries of the Essence Weave itself.

For now, we must content ourselves with what trade we can manage in the human lands and the elven realms. At least the harvest season promises good business this year. Small comfort, when the greatest prize remains locked behind doors of stone and suspicion.

I'll not give up hope, though. We ratori didn't become master traders by accepting the first 'no' we heard. Perhaps the winds of change that brought us the Arcane Eclipse will eventually thaw even dwarven hearts. Until then, may Nowmaak guide your trades and Sansamaak watch over your journeys.

Your ever-persistent friend,

Goldwhisker

P.S. I've enclosed a small flask of ember ale. Don't tell anyone. Enjoy it in good health, and dream of the day when such treasures flow freely between our peoples!
