Assassination of Tridbentes

In 313:Conquest, the High Serpent Priest Tridbentes was becoming deeply unpopular within the government of the Serpent Theocracy. Several lesser priests smuggled in components to make an early form of shadowpoint venom and disguised it as a spice as part of their religious rituals. They knew that Tridbentes would be consuming a sacred concoction during their Sacrament of Visions.

Within moments of consuming the spiked drink, Tridbentes was almost completely paralyzed and babbling about the imminent end times he was seeing. The priests who were part of the conspiracy attempted to usurp power and succeeded for a brief time before those loyal to Tridbentes discovered the leftover poison. The conspirators and their entire families were executed within a month of Tridbentes' death. Although modern shadowpoint venom did not yet exist, the Serpent Theocracy started tightly regulating the components that would eventually make it up.
