Serpent Report on the Magimancy and Elori
22 Frostdew, 246:Mysts
Most Esteemed Bentes,
May the scales of Ralnafelats shield you from prying eyes. I write to you from the misty edges of our domain, where the whispers of the world beyond our sacred islands reach my ears. The events unfolding in the lands of the surface dwellers demand our immediate attention and, dare I say, our concern.
First, I must report on the entity known as the Magimancy. Established some three decades past, this organization has grown from a loose association of spell-wielders into a formidable power that seeks to govern the use of magic across Tuyin. Their reach extends far beyond the borders of any single nation, and their influence grows with each passing season. The Magimancy's stated goal of regulating magical practices may seem benign, even prudent, to the uninitiated. However, we who are blessed by Masnits' insight can see the danger lurking beneath the surface. This centralization of arcane knowledge poses a significant threat to our own magical traditions and the secrecy we have long maintained.
Of equal concern is the recent founding of Elori. The elves, in their arrogance, have established a realm that they claim embodies the perfect balance between magic and nature. This Elori stands as a beacon to those who would seek to unravel the mysteries of the Essence Weave, a task that should rightfully belong to us alone.
The creation of Elori marks a shift in the balance of power. The elves have always been formidable, but with a unified homeland empowered by the Arcane Eclipse, they become a force that could challenge even our most carefully laid plans. Their mastery of magic, combined with their newfound unity, makes them a threat we cannot ignore.
Moreover, the proximity of Elori to the territories of other races concerns me. Already, we have observed increased cooperation between the elves and the humans of Alkland. Even the dwarves, typically resistant to outside influence, have shown interest in elven magical innovations. This network of alliances could prove disastrous for our future endeavors.
I humbly suggest that we take action to protect our interests: Infiltrate the Magimancy: We must place our own agents within their ranks. Knowledge is power, and we must ensure that we have access to the same information as our potential adversaries.
Sow discord in Elori: Using our skills in illusion and deception, we should work to create internal strife within the newly formed elven nation. A divided Elori is far less of a threat.
Strengthen our magical defenses: We must redouble our efforts to shield our islands from scrying and magical intrusion. The wards placed by our ancestors may no longer be sufficient in this new age of heightened magical awareness.
Seek new allies: Perhaps it is time we reached out to the orcs or the atpians. Both races have reasons to be wary of elven expansionism and could prove useful in maintaining the balance of power.
Accelerate our own magical research: We cannot allow ourselves to fall behind in the arcane arts. I propose increasing funding for our most promising acolytes and sages.
In these changing times, we must adapt or risk being left behind. The founding of the Magimancy and Elori are but the first ripples in what I fear may become a tidal wave of change. We must act now to ensure that when the wave breaks, the Serpent Theocracy rises above the waters rather than being swept away.
Your humble servant,
Kides
